Children's and Young Adult Literature: Home

This guide will help you learn about resources available in the Chicago State University Library and elsewhere about literature for children and young adults.

Welcome!

This LibGuide contains information about finding children's and young adult (YA) literature in the Chicago State University (CSU) Library and also about finding research and curricular materials about children's and YA literature in the CSU Library and elsewhere.

Children's literature and YA literature in the CSU Library are housed in the Education Resource Center (ERC) on the third floor of the library. Nonfiction materials are organized according to their Dewey Decimal Classification number; Fiction materials (for older children) and Easy materials (for younger children) are organized according to their authors' last names.  All call numbers for ERC materials begin with the prefix "MAT.CEN." which is short for Materials Center, the former name of the ERC.

The collection includes approximately 20,000 volumes and is designed primarily to serve students and faculty in the fields of library science and early childhood, elementary, middle school, and secondary education.

  • Books are primarily in the English language, but a small portion of the books are in other languages, mainly Spanish and French.
  • The collection includes most of the Caldecott, Newbery, and Coretta Scott King Award medal winners as well as many of the honor books.
